John Swannell
British Born 1946
John Swannell is well known for his elegantly precise fashion
studies and subtly lit portraits, most notably of the British monarchy,
which have appeared in Vogue, Harpers & Queen, The Sunday Times
and Tatler since the 1960s. His distinctive graphic style is also
evident in his rarely seen personal work: classically composed nudes
and panoramic rural landscapes from Cumbria to Utah. A major retrospective
of John Swannell's work was held in 1996 at The National Portrait
Gallery, London, where his work is extensively represented. His
work is also held in the permanent collections of The Victoria and
Albert Museum and The Royal Photographic Society, UK. Signed prints
are available from £800+vat.
