Valentine Schmidt
British
Born London, 1962
Valentine Schmidt's most recent work, Plunge, celebrates the architecture of the British lido, first established by Victorian philanthropists and later revived in the 1920s and 30s to promote the twin ideals of a healthy mind and a healthy body.
Drawn to the painted lines and floors of lidos in their various states of disrepair, Schmidt's semi-abstract studies are an eloquent meditation on the demise of these open-air pools and the idealism they embodied.
Valentine Schmidt has exhibited extensively in London, and her work has been published in journals including The Independent and The British Journal of Photography.
