One of Hollywood's foremost movie photographers, Sid Avery is believed
to have taken an incredible 350,000 pictures of stars during the
1950s and 60s and his images appeared in many publications to the
delight of a star-struck public. Avery's unobtrusive, easy manner
gained him the confidence of the most notoriously publicity-shy
stars like Humphrey Bogart and James Dean. This exhibition includes
many intimate images of the stars at home, including Paul Newman
making breakfast for Joanne Woodward, Rock Hudson fresh from the
shower, Marlon Brando unwinding by playing the bongo drums, and
Steve McQueen going for a spin in his 1957 Jaguar.
The work of Sid Avery is represented in many major collections,
including The Museum of Modern Art, International Center of Photography,
and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as well as the private
collections of Lauren Bacall, Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John amongst
others.
Signed collectors' prints will be available for purchase at special
prices, for the duration of the exhibition only, from £600+vat.
